Zhuhai lays out 2022-35 plan for hydrogen energy industry

Zhuhai will focus on improving its hydrogen energy industrial layout to accelerate the formation of regional integrated industrial and supply chains, striving to be a hydrogen energy industrial hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Overall Development Plan of Hydrogen Energy Industry in Zhuhai (2022-35) was recently released by the Zhuhai Development & Reform Bureau, offering guidance for the city's hydrogen energy industrial development in the near- (2022-25), medium- (2026-30), and long-term (2031-35).

Hydrogen energy refers to the use of hydrogen and/or hydrogen-containing compounds to generate energy, which will be supplied to all practical uses needed with high energy efficiency, overwhelming environmental and social benefits, as well as economic competitiveness.

A hydrogen energy industrial chain will initially take shape by the end of 2025, with the city striving to have a total hydrogen energy industrial output value of 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion). In the medium term, Zhuhai will optimize the industrial chain to form a regional shared industrial development community together with surrounding cities, helping achieve carbon dioxide peak emissions by 2030.

The larger scale marketization development of renewable energy sources with higher quality will be achieved in the long term to form distinctive Zhuhai-style hydrogen energy development advantages. The hydrogen energy industry will then be applied in various fields of transportation, electricity, industry, and construction, establishing an industrial ecosystem featuring the integration of the hydrogen energy industry with new business models like 5G, big data, the internet of things, as well as smart cities.

Relying on the comprehensive advantages of abundant hydrogen energy resources, mature vehicle manufacturing technologies, and diverse application scenarios, an optimized spatial layout will accelerate the high-quality development of hydrogen energy industries in Zhuhai. In addition, Xiangzhou District will be built into a core innovation hub, while Jinwan and Doumen districts will become clusters for the manufacturing of hydrogen energy industrial equipment.
