Shanghai universities top global rankings list in 2 subjects

Independent academic research organization ShanghaiRanking Consultancy released its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022 on July 19, which included universities from around the world, and listed their ranking in 54 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.

More than 1,800 out of 5,000 universities in 96 countries and regions are ranked in the list. Nineteen universities from Shanghai are included in the ranking and they appear 251 times in the list.

Two from Shanghai won first place in two subjects. Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranked best in ship and ocean engineering and Tongji University ranked first in civil engineering, and both have secured the top spot for six consecutive years.

Additionally, Shanghai Jiao Tong University's mechanical engineering, control science and engineering, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, and metallurgical engineering, Tongji University's transportation engineering, and Fudan University's biomedical engineering also received top-10 rankings.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranks first in Shanghai and fifth in the country with 45 subjects on the list, followed by Fudan University with 41 subjects and Tongji University with 35 subjects.

East China Normal University, Shanghai University, East China University of Science and Technology, Donghua University, ShanghaiTech University, and Shanghai University of Science and Technology are also included in the rankings in more than 10 subjects.
