Outdoor smart gyms were built in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – to increase the amount of exercise options available to residents. They were put into use in October last year.
Outdoor smart gyms have been set up at 15 locations in the city, and black fitness technology is being installed in parks, communities and other places, making it easier and more convenient for residents to exercise.
A smart gym is divided into a physical examination area, a muscle training area, and a competition area.
"People participating in exercise can view exercise data in real time through the WeChat applet, and can also formulate appropriate exercise plans and receive personalized guidance according to their specific situation," said Gao Zhi, regional manager of Shenzhen Good Family Health Technology Co Guizhou Branch which is the smart gym provider.
"In addition, the online competition and exercise form eliminated time and space constraints, while at the same time increasing enjoyment," Gao added.
Huang Jun, deputy director of the Guiyang bureau of sports, said that Guiyang is speeding up the layout and construction of outdoor smart gyms. It is estimated that by 2025, no less than 40 new smart gyms will be built and no less than 10 smart public sports venues will be digitally upgraded.
