With the rising popularity of the Chinese TV drama series A Dream of Splendor, antique markets, Chinese folk art, the art of chabaixi, and fan making are becoming popular among the drama's followers. Yuyuan Garden scenic area in Huangpu district, East China's Shanghai launched a special summer garden party on July 16, offering people a platform to feel the new trend of traditional Chinese culture without leaving Shanghai.
An antique market at the garden integrates the ancient street scenes with the traditional customs of the 24 solar terms, and offers visitors one-stop services including dining, drinking and shopping.
At Huabao Curio City in the Yuyuan Garden scenic area, many exquisite traditional fans have attracted the attention of tourists. An exhibition themed on fan culture is being held, which not only brings helps tourists cool down, but also offers them an opportunity to make fans.
"The exhibition is really fascinating. It allows me to experience the breadth and depth of traditional Chinese culture," said a resident surnamed Li.
A night tour in Yuyuan Garden is a good choice to spend summer nights, which include many performances for visitors.
Kunqu Opera, one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera, is more than 600 years old and performances are expected to be staged at Yuyuan Garden on the day of the Qixi Festival, often known as Chinese Valentine's Day.
