Co-organized by the National Institute for Nutrition and Health (NINH) of the China CDC and the office of the leading group of Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Students in Compulsory Education, a training course on dietary guidance and nutrition education for primary and secondary school students was held online on June 23, 2022.
More than 980,000 staff members from the CDCs, education departments and schools nationwide participated in the training via video link.
Liu Jing, deputy director of the Finance Department of the Ministry of Education, said that all localities should comprehensively analyze the data of students’ nutrition and health surveillance over the years, implement the recommendations of the Nutrition guidelines for school meals(WS/T 554-2017),and make good use of the electronic dietitian for students and other food planning tools.
Duan Lin, deputy director of the Chronic Disease and Nutrition Division of the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control of the National Health Commission, said that children's dietary guidance and nutrition education should be more targeted under the impact of the food environment and the pandemic.
Ding Gangqiang, director of the NINH of the China CDC, said that providing rational meals for students and systematic nutrition and health education are the most cost-effective measures to improve the country’s human capital.
Experts from the NINH, including Zhang Qian and Xu Juan, introduced the work plan for the Dietary Guidance and Nutrition Education Plan of Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Students in Compulsory Education released in June 2022 and explained the key information and usage of the electronic dietitian for tudents catering platform and Teachers’ Book for Nutrition Education in Primary/Secondary schools.
