Wuxi National Hi-tech District is leading green manufacturing in the city in response to the country's goals of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.
The district was recently approved as the first national green park in Wuxi thanks to its efforts to build four national green factories, five provincial green factories and five municipal green factories, as well as have three products recognized as green-design products by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
A total of 26 enterprises and institutions based in WND have so far been included in a three-year green manufacturing system construction plan for 2022-24. Two hundred and seventy-six enterprises are preparing for green factory star ratings in 2022. The local government has invited professional authoritative organizations to carry out free energy-saving diagnoses for 138 enterprises, aiming to promote the green development of industries.
The "green factory" is a concept proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2017. It attaches heavy importance to green production in line with China's strategy to establish a green manufacturing system.
The concept should meet requirements in seven areas: infrastructure, management systems, products, energy consumption, emissions, profits and other basic requirements.
In 2021, the total industrial output value of nine provincial and national green factories in WND exceeded 30 billion yuan ($4.46 billion).
