Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region's forestry ecotourism received more than 200 million tourists by the end of 2021 with tourism consumption totaling 215.6 billion yuan ($32.16 billion), officials announced during a forestry ecotourism development press conference on July 12.
Forestry ecotourism has now become an important growth pole for Guangxi's modern forestry industrial system, contributing a lot to Guangxi's goal of becoming the world-class tourism and international rehabilitation tourism destination.
Guangxi is a major ecological barrier in South China and the region has been planting more than 3 million mu (200,000 hectares) of trees for 13 consecutive years. As of the end of 2021, the forest coverage rate in Guangxi reached 62.55 percent, a total of 34 places in Guangxi have been rated as forestry rehabilitation bases, a total of 25 have been rated as forest experience bases, and a total of 17 have been rated as flower and nursery stock sightseeing bases.
In addition, officials announced that Guangxi will build 10 high-quality travel routes and 100 tourism destinations featuring forestry ecotourism.
