Hubei's Zigui county wears a new green look

The comprehensive environmental improvement project of the shoreline from Muyu Island to Jianpenling is located in the core area of the Three Gorges project, which is one of the major plans in the follow-up work of the Three Gorges in Zigui County of Yichang city, Central China's Hubei province, and is also of great significance to the ecological environment and economic development of Zigui county.

The construction of the project began in March 2017 and opened to the public in October 2020, with a total of 5.12 km of reservoir bank reconstruction and safety protection, ecological restoration of 171,700 square meters, said Du Yuli, a tour guide from the Bureau of Culture and Tourism of Zigui county.

The original reservoir bank of Zigui county had steep topography, serious erosion in its water-level-fluctuating zone, which posed hidden dangers of bank collapse and landslide. The comprehensive environmental improvement project of the shoreline from Muyu Island to Jianpenling has solved the safety problem of the reservoir bank along the river through effective measures.

The construction of the project lays stress on green planting. The tree species and plants that are suitable for the local climate environment, easy to grow and maintain and have local characteristics in the collocation of tree species and plants are the project's main target.

The Muyu Island Tianwen Park built with the support of the project is conducive to maintaining the security of the reservoir bank along Zigui county. It has improved the living environment of the county and its surrounding areas, and it plays a vital role in shaping the brand of ecological livable green city for Zigui county and promoting the sustainable economic and social development of the county.
