Wuxi National Hi-tech District saw its exports increase 20.8 percent year-on-year to $13.63 billion in the first five months of this year, according to an official announcement.
From January to May in 2022, the exports of mechanical and electrical products in WND reached $12.12 billion, accounting for 88.9 percent of total exports and indicating a further optimized trade structure in the district.
In the same period, WND's exports to South Korea, ASEAN and the European Union reached $3.46 billion, $2.3 billion and $2.03 billion, respectively, year-on-year increases of 62.8 percent, 30.7 percent and 1.0 percent. Exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative increased by 17.2 percent yearly to $3.22 billion.
The integrated circuit industry is a strong industry in WND and the exports of the IC industry are an important driving force behind the growth of WND's foreign trade. In the first five months of 2022, among mechanical and electrical exports, IC exports increased by 56.4 percent to $3.71 billion.
WND has also been working to help solve problems faced by foreign trade enterprises due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Since March this year, the cargo flight from South Korea to Wuxi has been running three times a week, while the cargo flight between Wuxi and Osaka, Japan opened in June.
