Chengdu and Chongqing in Southwest China have responded to the central government's call for the two cities to coordinate their development. The two sides plan to build three 1-trillion-yuan ($149.2 billion) industrial clusters in the automobile, electronic information and equipment manufacturing sectors.
Data indicate that from January to May this year, Chengdu and Chongqing produced 1.22 million cars in total, a year-on-year increase of 4 percent, and higher than the national average by 15 percentage points.
The Chengdu-Chongqing automobile industrial chain coordination platform has collected more than 3,500 car makers and auto parts suppliers, and has involved over 10 billion yuan in procurement.
About 200 member units have registered at the coordination platform for the electronic information industry, which has cumulatively issued over 300 pieces of information related to supply and demand.
Since the beginning of this year, Chongqing has signed 82 equipment manufacturing projects with Chengdu worth 34.26 billion yuan.
The two regions recently also signed cooperation agreements to jointly promote coordination in general aviation and flight services.
Chongqing Yanfeng Adient Automotive Components Co in Liangjiang New Area of Chongqing municipality is an auto cockpit supplier for Changan Ford, Geely, Volvo and other whole-car makers based in the two cities. The company has to a greatly benefited from the coordination platform.
Last September, the enterprises posted on the platform in search of a suitable plastic auto part supplier. It was a success, with the two enterprises establishing partnerships within just one week.
According to an official from Changan Auto, the number of its Chongqing and Chengdu-based supporting enterprises has reached 30 percent of its total.
