Zhou Shifeng has been committed to creating the mountain and water genre of classic Chinese painting. Zhou blends the varying landscapes of North and South China to form a distinctive pictorial view of his own. His work features the feeling of dense moisture with the rosy glows of southern scenery and, at the same time, presents the clear-cut, masculine structures of the northern mountains.
Instant Inspiration on Landscape, an exhibition being held until June 29 at the National Art Museum of China, shows dozens of Zhou's paintings. It's a celebration of the country's long-standing ink tradition and Zhou's exploration with rendering the tradition in a modern sense.
