The Zhenhu sub-district in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province has taken advantage of its unique resources such as Su embroidery (Suxiuin Chinese) to develop its tourism industry and drive rural vitalization.
Surrounded by Taihu Lake on three sides, the sub-district is the birthplace of Su embroidery, which was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
Zhenhu has built an embroidery art gallery and a wetland park, both of which have been recognized as national 4A scenic spots.
The local authorities are seeking to expand the embroidery industry chain and integrate more cultural elements to improve the experience of tourists.
The sub-district has also been promoting cooperation with relevant enterprises to expand sales channels for agricultural products.
Yao Hua, Party secretary of Shifan village in Zhenhu, said that they have been making efforts, including building a greenway and upgrading infrastructure, to improve the rural living environment.
