Febrile convulsions are common in children aged 6 months to 6 years.
Don’ts:
When children have febrile convulsions, parents should not restrain them and should not give them food and water.
In addition, parents should not adopt the method of pinching renzhong (the acupoint of the human body located at the upper lip under the nose), which has no proven effect and may cause damage to the child’s skin soft tissues.
Do’s:
Let the child lie flat in a safe and open place.
Place the child's head to one side or make him/her lie in a lateral position to sustain smooth breathing.
Remove secretions from the child's mouth as soon as possible.
If the convulsion lasts for more than five minutes or there has been a history of persistent and continual convulsions, parents should call the medical emergency number 120 immediately and seek medical help.
