Shanghai reported two locally transmitted COVID-19 confirmed cases and two asymptomatic infections outside of quarantine and lockdown areas on Tuesday.
The four infections, aged between 27 and 75, reside in the city's Baoshan, Jing'an, and Pudong districts. Four new areas in the city have been classified as medium-risk areas because of these cases.
Authorities said they will supply food and epidemic prevention items to residents living in these areas, as well as station doctors within the affected communities so as to ensure all residents have access to medical treatment.
Zhao Dandan, deputy director of the Shanghai Health Commission, said that in addition to medium-risk areas, other communities that the infected individuals had visited may also be locked down according to epidemic prevention and control protocols for up to seven days.
