May 29: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 82 new cases of confirmed infections (28 imported cases, 15 in Fujian province, 6 in Sichuan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Fujian province, 2 in Sichuan province and 1 in Guangdong province; 54 indigenous cases, 29 in Shanghai municipality, 14 in Beijing municipality, 7 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Henan province, 1 in Hubei province and 1 in Sichuan province, including 21 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 18 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Beijing municipality and 1 in Sichuan province), no deaths, and no new cases of suspected infections.

On May 28, 252 patients were released from hospital after being cured (17 imported cases; 235 indigenous cases, 114 in Shanghai municipality, 50 in Beijing municipality, 21 in Sichuan province, 17 in Henan province, 10 in Tianjin municipality, 7 in Jilin province, 7 in Guangdong province, 3 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Hunan province, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and 1 in Shaanxi province). 12,939 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases decreased by 22.

As of 24:00 on May 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,637 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 18,408 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 229 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 28, the National Health Commission had received reports of 224,015 confirmed cases and 5,226 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 215,860 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 2,929 confirmed cases (including 140 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 4,073,242 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 192,254 were still under medical observation.

On May 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 211 new asymptomatic cases (50 imported cases; 161 indigenous cases, 93 in Shanghai municipality, 13 in Hebei province, 10 in Jilin province, 8 in Liaoning province, 7 in Beijing municipality, 7 in Henan province, 7 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 4 in Sichuan province, 3 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Shandong province and 1 in Anhui province).

On May 28, 1,555 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (41 imported cases; 1,514 indigenous cases, 1,324 in Shanghai municipality, 82 in Sichuan province, 45 in Henan province, 9 in Tianjin municipality, 8 in Beijing municipality, 7 in Zhejiang province, 6 in Jilin province, 6 in Jiangsu province, 5 in Liaoning province, 5 in Anhui province, 5 in Qinghai province, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Shandong province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Jiangxi province and 1 in Guangdong province). 27 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on May 28, 16,181 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 449 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 28, 2,148,037 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 332,251 in Hong Kong (9,376 had died and 62,163 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 83 in Macao (82 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,815,703 in Taiwan (1,911 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
