May 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 169 new cases of confirmed infections (12 imported cases, 7 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Yunnan province and 1 in Shanghai municipality; 157 indigenous cases, 52 in Beijing municipality, 52 in Shanghai municipality, 36 in Tianjin municipality, 12 in Sichuan province, 3 in Henan province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Shaanxi province, including 45 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 29 in Shanghai municipality, 12 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Sichuan province and 1 in Beijing municipality), 3 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.

On May 21, 476 patients were released from hospital after being cured (12 imported cases; 464 indigenous cases, 343 in Shanghai municipality, 45 in Beijing municipality, 14 in Zhejiang province, 14 in Henan province, 14 in Guangdong province, 13 in Qinghai province, 8 in Jilin province, 3 in Liaoning province, 3 in Guizhou province, 2 in Shandong province, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Sichuan province). 16,710 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases decreased by 92.

As of 24:00 on May 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,493 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 18,293 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 200 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 223,145 confirmed cases and 5,222 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 213,518 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 4,405 confirmed cases (including 200 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 3,991,358 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 259,419 were still under medical observation.

On May 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 729 new asymptomatic cases (62 imported cases; 667 indigenous cases, 570 in Shanghai municipality, 35 in Sichuan province, 20 in Tianjin municipality, 15 in Henan province, 10 in Jilin province, 9 in Beijing municipality, 4 in Anhui province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Zhejiang province and 1 in Fujian province).

On May 21, 4,860 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (47 imported cases; 4,813 indigenous cases, 4,549 in Shanghai municipality, 68 in Jiangsu province, 50 in Henan province, 25 in Liaoning province, 21 in Zhejiang province, 15 in Jilin province, 14 in Qinghai province, 13 in Shandong province, 12 in Hebei province, 11 in Beijing municipality, 9 in Anhui province, 8 in Jiangxi province, 5 in Guangdong province, 4 in Sichuan province, 4 in Guizhou province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Tianjin municipality and 1 in Chongqing municipality). 45 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were indigenous cases). As of 24:00 on May 21, 37,636 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 443 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 21, 1,572,929 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 331,950 in Hong Kong (9,370 had died and 61,842 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,240,897 in Taiwan (1,343 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
