The Meeting of the BRICS Health Senior Officials was held via video link on May 6 under China’s BRICS rotating chairmanship. Officials from China’s National Health Commission presided over the meeting.
The meeting briefly reviewed the progress made by BRICS nations since the first BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting that was held in Beijing in 2011. Participants shared experiences in establishing an early warning system for large-scale infectious diseases and strategies for COVID-19 prevention and control. They also had consultations on a draft declaration of the 12th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting.
It was stated at the meeting that BRICS nations are willing to continue to strengthen cooperation and make efforts in epidemic prevention and control, infectious disease monitoring, health system construction, medical personnel training and improving vaccination rates, so as to jointly safeguard global health security.
More than 30 officials and experts from the health departments of China, Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa attended the meeting.
