Beijing's two designated hospitals have accepted 1,186 COVID-19 patients as of 3 pm Tuesday since the latest outbreak began on April 22, and 541 have been discharged after recovery or released from quarantine, a senior official said.

All the patients -- with the youngest 28 days old and the oldest aged 91 -- were treated by Beijing Ditan Hospital and Xiaotangshan Hospital, said Wang Xiao'e, an official with the Beijing Health Commission, at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The average age of patients is 43.5.

"At present, 645 patients are still receiving medical treatment at hospital, among whom 106 are asymptomatic carriers, 472 have mild symptoms, 66 have normal symptoms and one in critical condition," she said.

In the past two days, a growing number of patients have been discharged, she added.

To take good care of senior and children patients, and because there were many family infection clusters during the outbreak, hospitals have provided one inpatient ward for each family for their convenience.

The hospitals have paid close attention to patients' mood and are providing professional emotional guidance to ease their anxieties.
