Tangjiahe nature reserve welcomes 10 new species of birds

Tangjiahe Nature Reserve in Sichuan province celebrated the first anniversary of the launch of its bird banding center to mark International Bird Day, which fell on April 1.

In the past year, Tangjiahe has carried out surveys in forests and shrubs at an altitude of 1,261 to 2,680 meters, focusing on early and mid-breeding ages of birds.

A total of 356 wild birds were caught in nets throughout the year, including 11 national second-level protected species, four species listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and six rare species native to China.

Ten species were newly spotted in the reserve, bringing the total number of species there to 338. The newcomers include the Yunnan leaf warbler, Emei leaf warbler, grey-crowned fly-catching warbler, Sichuan woodcreeper, paddy-field pipit and chestnut bunting.
