Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, stood out in a report on the influence of Chinese cities in international exchange (2022) released by Xinhua News Agency on April 13.
The report evaluated the major cities of Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, and Xi'an, as well as five cities specially designated in the State plan – Shenzhen, Ningbo, Qingdao, Dalian and Xiamen as the research objects.
It mainly examined the performance of the 14 cities in terms of diplomatic vitality, economic openness, and external appearance.
By the end of 2021, Xi'an had 38 international sister cities in 31 countries around the world, as well as 63 friendly exchange cities and four friendly exchange districts and counties.
The city has consulates of Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, and Cambodia, becoming the center of foreign political exchange in Northwest China.
In recent years, many activities have been held in the city, such as the Silk Road International Exposition, Euro-Asia Economic Forum and Silk Road International Art Festival, reflecting Xi'an's efforts to seize the unique opportunity of the Belt and Road Initiative and become an international metropolis.
