Picking their favorite ingredients and making a dish, sewing, knotting, planting trees and vegetables and volunteering, students from Huimin No 2 Primary School in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region are trying out different options in extracurricular classes.
The Ministry of Education recently released a new curriculum standard for labor education in compulsory education.
"Our school responded actively to the new standard using mission-to-accomplish mode to drive students' passion in this course and guiding them not only to simply complete the work but also to learn and enjoy the process of labor," said Shao Chen, Party secretary of the school.
Knotting is a kind of weaving related to knitting. Wang Zhenlin joined the class where both skills are taught.
"From ancient times, there have been books about knotting. I tried out different methods in the class and found a way to knot fast and beautifully," Wang said.
Labor courses cover mainly household chores, productive labor and services. The goal is to encourage students to form positive values, good character and key competencies.
