May 6: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 374 new cases of confirmed infections (18 imported cases, 14 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Heilongjiang province and 1 in Sichuan province; 356 indigenous cases, 245 in Shanghai municipality, 55 in Beijing municipality, 24 in Henan province, 13 in Guangdong province, 4 in Hebei province, 4 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Jiangxi province, 2 in Hunan province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Guizhou province, including 189 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 181 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Guangdong province and 2 in Liaoning province), 12 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.

On May 5, 1,602 patients were released from hospital after being cured (18 imported cases; 1,584 indigenous cases, 1,390 in Shanghai municipality, 51 in Jilin province, 43 in Heilongjiang province, 32 in Jiangxi province, 15 in Zhejiang province, 11 in Guangdong province, 7 in Fujian province, 5 in Beijing municipality, 5 in Shandong province, 4 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 4 in Jiangsu province, 3 in Shanxi province, 3 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 2 in Hebei province, 2 in Hunan province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Anhui province, 1 in Henan province, 1 in Hainan province and 1 in Shaanxi province). 41,416 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 9.

As of 24:00 on May 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,256 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 18,091 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 165 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 218,945 confirmed cases and 5,153 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 202,277 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 11,515 confirmed cases (including 659 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 3,605,382 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 456,802 were still under medical observation.

On May 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 4,340 new asymptomatic cases (68 imported cases; 4,272 indigenous cases, 4,024 in Shanghai municipality, 61 in Liaoning province, 55 in Henan province, 47 in Jiangsu province, 24 in Zhejiang province, 17 in Beijing municipality, 15 in Jiangxi province, 12 in Jilin province, 7 in Hebei province, 5 in Shandong province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Guizhou province).

On May 5, 10,982 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (89 imported cases; 10,893 indigenous cases, 10,406 in Shanghai municipality, 91 in Hebei province, 76 in Jilin province, 44 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 42 in Jiangsu province, 40 in Shandong province, 36 in Jiangxi province, 31 in Fujian province, 29 in Anhui province, 24 in Heilongjiang province, 20 in Zhejiang province, 12 in Liaoning province, 11 in Henan province, 8 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 8 in Yunnan province, 6 in Shanxi province, 3 in Hubei province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality and 1 in Qinghai province). 189 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were indigenous cases). As of 24:00 on May 5, 111,906 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 505 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 5, 563,581 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 331,097 in Hong Kong (9,333 had died and 60,119 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 232,402 in Taiwan (886 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
