On May 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 373 new cases of confirmed infections (13 imported cases, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Yunnan province; 360 indigenous cases, 261 in Shanghai municipality, 42 in Beijing municipality, 14 in Henan province, 13 in Guangdong province, 10 in Zhejiang province, 4 in Jilin province, 4 in Heilongjiang province, 3 in Jiangsu province, 3 in Jiangxi province, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Hunan province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Sichuan province, including 190 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 185 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Jilin province, 2 in Guangdong province and 1 in Liaoning province), 13 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.
On May 4, 2,125 patients were released from hospital after being cured (8 imported cases; 2,117 indigenous cases, 1,739 in Shanghai municipality, 263 in Jilin province, 31 in Jiangxi province, 20 in Beijing municipality, 18 in Heilongjiang province, 10 in Guangdong province, 6 in Henan province, 5 in Jiangsu province, 4 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 4 in Liaoning province, 4 in Zhejiang province, 4 in Qinghai province, 3 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 2 in Shanxi province, 2 in Shandong province, 1 in Hubei province and 1 in Hainan province). 30,335 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 30.
As of 24:00 on May 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,238 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 18,073 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 165 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and no suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on May 4, the National Health Commission had received reports of 218,571 confirmed cases and 5,141 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 200,675 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 12,755 confirmed cases (including 650 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 3,578,073 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 470,918 were still under medical observation.

On May 4, 14,132 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (65 imported cases; 14,067 indigenous cases, 13,133 in Shanghai municipality, 493 in Jilin province, 95 in Jiangsu province, 49 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 46 in Jiangxi province, 41 in Hebei province, 34 in Shandong province, 32 in Anhui province, 30 in Henan province, 23 in Yunnan province, 18 in Shanxi province, 16 in Liaoning province, 16 in Heilongjiang province, 9 in Hubei province, 8 in Zhejiang province, 8 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 7 in Guangdong province, 4 in Qinghai province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Hainan province). 190 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were indigenous cases). As of 24:00 on May 4, 118,737 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 526 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on May 4, 533,482 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 330,982 in Hong Kong (9,328 had died and 59,976 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 202,418 in Taiwan (881 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
