The first pilot freight train service – running from the city of Guiyang to Pinghu South Railway Station in Shenzhen city, in South China's Guangdong province – set off on its debut journey on March 14.

It departed from Gaimao Railway Station in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The freight train was loaded with 49 containers of tires and electronics products and was scheduled to arrive in Shenzhen in two days, with the containers then set to be exported abroad by sea.

According to the opinions for promoting the open economy, issued by the Guizhou Provincial Government in December last year, Guizhou will cooperate with the Pan-Pearl River Delta Area. It will also participate in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and create a traffic network of railways, expressways, as well as aviation and water transportation routes between Guizhou and Guangdong.

Furthermore, the Opinions of the State Council on Supporting Guizhou in Blazing New Trails in the Development of the Western Region in the New Era – issued in January – stated that the country will establish a freight railway connecting Chongqing, Zunyi, Guiyang, Liuzhou, Guangzhou Port, Shenzhen Port and the Beibu Gulf Port.

Guizhou Railway Investment Group Co – the operator of the Gaimao-Pinghu South freight train – is constructing logistics infrastructure and logistic platforms. Relying on its competitive advantages in the railway sector, it is helping with the development of China-Europe freight trains, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the Guizhou-Guangdong logistics channel.
