May 2: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 1, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 865 new cases of confirmed infections (19 imported cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 3 in Jiangsu province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality and 1 in Heilongjiang province; 846 indigenous cases, 727 in Shanghai municipality, 36 in Beijing municipality, 31 in Jilin province, 23 in Guangdong province, 8 in Heilongjiang province, 6 in Sichuan province, 5 in Shandong province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Jiangxi province, 2 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Henan province, including 566 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 529 in Shanghai municipality, 27 in Jilin province, 7 in Guangdong province, 2 in Beijing municipality and 1 in Sichuan province), 32 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.

On May 1, 4,662 patients were released from hospital after being cured (15 imported cases; 4,647 indigenous cases, 4,242 in Shanghai municipality, 242 in Jilin province, 45 in Heilongjiang province, 29 in Guangdong province, 25 in Jiangxi province, 13 in Zhejiang province, 10 in Beijing municipality, 7 in Hunan province, 5 in Shanxi province, 5 in Jiangsu province, 4 in Hebei province, 4 in Fujian province, 4 in Qinghai province, 3 in Shandong province, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 1 in Anhui province). 32,454 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 129.

As of 24:00 on May 1, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,200 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 18,040 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 160 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 1, the National Health Commission had received reports of 217,452 confirmed cases and 5,092 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 192,187 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 20,173 confirmed cases (including 576 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 3,476,364 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 473,932 were still under medical observation.

On May 1, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 6,957 new asymptomatic cases (62 imported cases; 6,895 indigenous cases, 6,606 in Shanghai municipality, 95 in Liaoning province, 37 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 35 in Jiangxi province, 34 in Shandong province, 20 in Heilongjiang province, 16 in Jilin province, 16 in Jiangsu province, 16 in Zhejiang province, 5 in Beijing municipality, 4 in Hebei province, 4 in Henan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Yunnan province).

On May 1, 30,622 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (110 imported cases; 30,512 indigenous cases, 29,468 in Shanghai municipality, 559 in Jilin province, 154 in Hebei province, 94 in Jiangsu province, 40 in Anhui province, 37 in Heilongjiang province, 24 in Shanxi province, 22 in Jiangxi province, 22 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 21 in Henan province, 17 in Fujian province, 14 in Hubei province, 9 in Yunnan province, 8 in Shandong province, 7 in Liaoning province, 6 in Zhejiang province, 5 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Qinghai province and 1 in Sichuan province). 566 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were indigenous cases). As of 24:00 on May 1, 156,131 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 542 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 1, 463,762 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 330,725 in Hong Kong (9,313 had died and 59,661 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 132,955 in Taiwan (868 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
