According to the work report presented by Lu Zhiyuan, Party secretary of Qingdao, at the 13th Qingdao Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China, which started on April 8, the eastern coastal city of Qingdao in Shandong province will construct a world-class bay area in the next five years.
The city will ramp up efforts to improve its economic strength, population density, and innovation capability. It will build a bay area with a strong capacity for driving development in surrounding regions.
In eastern Qingdao, emphasis will be placed on cultural inheritance and business format iteration, as well as the preservation of historic areas and urban renewal. The headquarters economy, modern finance, scientific and technological innovation, featured commerce and trade, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges will be strengthened in the region.
The West Coast New Area will highlight openness and innovation, comprehensively improve urban quality development, and leverage the advantages of multiple platforms. It will strengthen the development of shipping trade, the port-neighboring economy, advanced manufacturing, and cultural creativity.
In northern Qingdao, emphasis will be placed on capacity expansion and industry-city integration. Relying on the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area, the airport economic zone, the high-tech zone and other functional areas, it will strengthen logistics trade, the airport economy, scientific innovation incubation, and international exhibitions.
