The axe-blade with a human-face motif from the collection of the Shandong Museum dates back to the late Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC).
The bronze weapon belonged to a nobleman from the Yachou tribe that flourished in Qingzhou, Shandong province more than 3,000 years ago. The bigger size and intricate craftsmanship indicate it was not only a piece of weapon but a symbol of power at the time.
It was unearthed from Subutun Tomb in Qingzhou city, Shandong province in 1965.
