On April 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 2,841 (increased by 2 after verification) new cases of confirmed infections (11 imported cases, 5 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Fujian province, 1 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region; 2,830 [increased by 2 after verification] indigenous cases, 2,634 [increased by 2 after verification] in Shanghai municipality, 95 in Jilin province, 42 in Heilongjiang province, 14 in Jiangxi province, 8 in Jiangsu province, 8 in Guangdong province, 6 in Zhejiang province, 5 in Shanxi province, 4 in Sichuan province, 4 in Qinghai province, 3 in Hunan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Hebei province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 500 [increased by 2 after verification] confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 459 [increased by 2 after verification] in Shanghai municipality, 32 in Jilin province, 5 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Shandong province), 8 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.

On April 20, 2,183 patients were released from hospital after being cured (14 imported cases; 2,169 indigenous cases, 1,173 in Shanghai municipality, 913 in Jilin province, 14 in Shandong province, 13 in Fujian province, 10 in Zhejiang province, 10 in Sichuan province, 8 in Guangdong province, 7 in Jiangsu province, 4 in Hainan province, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Hebei province, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Hunan province and 1 in Qinghai province). 71,085 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 107.

As of 24:00 on April 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,061 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 17,828 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 233 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on April 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 193,953 (increased by 2 after verification) confirmed cases and 4,663 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 157,869 (increased by 2 after verification) patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 31,421 confirmed cases (including 223 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 3,021,806 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 425,756 were still under medical observation.

On April 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16,617 new asymptomatic cases (65 imported cases; 16,552 indigenous cases, 15,861 in Shanghai municipality, 261 in Jilin province, 111 in Jiangsu province, 93 in Hebei province, 31 in Zhejiang province, 31 in Jiangxi province, 30 in Anhui province, 26 in Shanxi province, 25 in Henan province, 23 in Heilongjiang province, 20 in Shandong province, 9 in Qinghai province, 6 in Liaoning province, 6 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 6 in Yunnan province, 4 in Guangdong province, 4 in Sichuan province, 3 in Hubei province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps).

On April 20, 21,143 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (68 imported cases; 21,075 indigenous cases, 19,124 in Shanghai municipality, 1,473 in Jilin province, 89 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 71 in Shandong province, 67 in Hebei province, 65 in Liaoning province, 52 in Jiangsu province, 44 in Fujian province, 23 in Anhui province, 15 in Hubei province, 12 in Guangdong province, 7 in Gansu province, 6 in Hainan province, 6 in Yunnan province, 5 in Henan province, 4 in Qinghai province, 3 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Heilongjiang province, 2 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Sichuan province, 1 in Guizhou province and 1 in Shaanxi province). 502 (increased by 2 after verification) asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on April 20, 261,262 (increased by 2 after verification) asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 745 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on April 20, 350,502 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 310,234 in Hong Kong (9,186 had died and 68,755 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 40,186 in Taiwan (856 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
