Li Bai (701-762) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) is renowned for his distinguished poems. Li wrote his poem in cursive script after he visited the Taoist temple Yangtai in Luoyang to meet his friend, only to find out he had died.
The only extant and authentic calligraphy manuscript by Li is now in the collection of the Palace Museum. Emperors and the literati of later generations have treated this manuscript with reverence and left their inscriptions and stamped authentication seals on the mounted scroll. Li’s writings reflect his unrestrained mind.
