On April 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 2,742 new cases of confirmed infections (19 imported cases, 5 in Sichuan province, 4 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province; 2,723 indigenous cases, 2,417 in Shanghai municipality, 166 in Jilin province, 34 in Zhejiang province, 30 in Heilongjiang province, 25 in Guangdong province, 12 in Qinghai province, 10 in Jiangxi province, 9 in Shanxi province, 7 in Jiangsu province, 3 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Shandong province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Anhui province and 1 in Guizhou province, including 910 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 853 in Shanghai municipality, 41 in Jilin province, 8 in Zhejiang province, 5 in Guangdong province, 2 in Jiangsu province and 1 in Qinghai province), 3 deaths (all were indigenous cases in Shanghai municipality), and no new cases of suspected infections.

On April 17, 1,637 patients were released from hospital after being cured (18 imported cases; 1,619 indigenous cases, 790 in Jilin province, 733 in Shanghai municipality, 17 in Fujian province, 8 in Heilongjiang province, 8 in Zhejiang province, 8 in Shandong province, 7 in Sichuan province, 5 in Jiangsu province, 5 in Guangdong province, 5 in Hainan province, 5 in Qinghai province, 4 in Beijing municipality, 4 in Anhui province, 4 in Hunan province, 4 in Shaanxi province, 3 in Hebei province, 3 in Liaoning province, 2 in Shanxi province, 2 in Henan province and 2 in Guizhou province). 33,882 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases decreased by 7.

As of 24:00 on April 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,023 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 17,766 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 257 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and 5 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on April 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 185,035 confirmed cases and 4,641 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 151,407 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 28,987 confirmed cases (including 71 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases. 2,876,777 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 425,591 were still under medical observation.

On April 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20,718 new asymptomatic cases (79 imported cases; 20,639 indigenous cases, 19,831 in Shanghai municipality, 376 in Jilin province, 90 in Jiangsu province, 58 in Anhui province, 50 in Shanxi province, 42 in Zhejiang province, 34 in Jiangxi province, 31 in Yunnan province, 27 in Shandong province, 24 in Heilongjiang province, 18 in Fujian province, 16 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 11 in Hubei province, 10 in Guangdong province, 9 in Liaoning province, 8 in Henan province and 4 in Qinghai province).

On April 17, 20,856 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (95 imported cases; 20,761 indigenous cases, 19,473 in Shanghai municipality, 828 in Jilin province, 98 in Shandong province, 68 in Hebei province, 67 in Anhui province, 38 in Jiangsu province, 38 in Henan province, 32 in Liaoning province, 29 in Fujian province, 24 in Jiangxi province, 20 in Guangdong province, 16 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 10 in Heilongjiang province, 8 in Yunnan province, 4 in Qinghai province, 3 in Zhejiang province, 3 in Gansu province, 1 in Hunan province and 1 in Sichuan province). 912 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on April 17, 282,764 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 772 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on April 17, 344,036 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 309,447 in Hong Kong (9,139 had died and 66,877 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 34,507 in Taiwan (854 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
