On April 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 3,529 new cases of confirmed infections (25 imported cases, 12 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Sichuan province, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Shandong province, including 1 confirmed case converting from an asymptomatic case in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region; 3,504 indigenous cases, 3,238 in Shanghai municipality, 167 in Jilin province, 32 in Heilongjiang province, 29 in Guangdong province, 10 in Zhejiang province, 9 in Shanxi province, 5 in Qinghai province, 3 in Henan province, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Shandong province, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Hunan province, including 1,224 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1,177 in Shanghai municipality, 36 in Jilin province, 4 in Guangdong province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Qinghai province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Henan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths.

On April 16, 1,600 patients were released from hospital after being cured (28 imported cases; 1,572 indigenous cases, 1,084 in Jilin province, 373 in Shanghai municipality, 25 in Fujian province, 21 in Shandong province, 12 in Zhejiang province, 7 in Sichuan province, 7 in Shaanxi province, 6 in Guangdong province, 5 in Heilongjiang province, 5 in Jiangsu province, 5 in Jiangxi province, 5 in Henan province, 4 in Shanxi province, 3 in Hebei province, 3 in Hainan province, 2 in Liaoning province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Anhui province, 1 in Hunan province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Yunnan province). 30,170 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 4.

As of 24:00 on April 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 18,004 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 17,748 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 256 confirmed cases (no serious cases) and 12 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on April 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 182,293 confirmed cases and 4,638 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 149,770 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 27,885 confirmed cases (including 78 cases in serious condition) and 12 suspected cases. 2,852,563 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 435,266 were still under medical observation.

On April 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 22,626 new asymptomatic cases (114 imported cases; 22,512 indigenous cases, 21,582 in Shanghai municipality, 525 in Jilin province, 85 in Jiangsu province, 58 in Anhui province, 51 in Yunnan province, 36 in Shanxi province, 28 in Heilongjiang province, 21 in Fujian province, 21 in Shandong province, 20 in Zhejiang province, 19 in Henan province, 17 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 12 in Hubei province, 11 in Guangdong province, 7 in Liaoning province, 7 in Qinghai province, 5 in Hebei province, 3 in Jiangxi province, 2 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 2 in Shaanxi province).

On April 16, 12,263 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (94 imported cases; 12,169 indigenous cases, 10,337 in Shanghai municipality, 1,409 in Jilin province, 79 in Shandong province, 68 in Fujian province, 62 in Liaoning province, 36 in Anhui province, 29 in Henan province, 27 in Jiangxi province, 25 in Jiangsu province, 23 in Hebei province, 13 in Guangdong province, 13 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 8 in Heilongjiang province, 8 in Hubei province, 8 in Yunnan province, 6 in Gansu province, 5 in Hainan province, 5 in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, 3 in Qinghai province, 2 in Shanxi province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Chongqing municipality and 1 in Sichuan province). 1,225 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on April 16, 283,814 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 790 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on April 16, 342,473 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 309,186 in Hong Kong (9,110 had died and 66,230 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 82 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 33,205 in Taiwan (854 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
