SAIC Roewe said its third-generation RX5 SUV will feature the car group's latest 1.5-liter turbocharged engine.
The GS61 engine has a maximum output of 300 Nm and a top torque of 188 horsepower, which make it one of the most 1.5-liter turbocharged engines.
SAIC said the engine's friction loss is 21 percent lower than its predecessor but its heat efficiency is 40 percent higher.
Thanks to the engine's efficiency, the RX5 has a fuel consumption of 6 liters per 100 kilometers.
In terms of durability, the engine has gone through over 60 types of tests, with testing time combined reaching 55,000 hours.
The engine is made at SAIC's engine plant in Zhengzhou, Henan province.
With an investment of 1.476 billion yuan ($23.16 million), it can produce 300,000 engines a year.
