Southwest China's Guizhou province registered 15,147 invention patents in 2021, which represented a hefty 20.6 percent year-on-year.
Breaking down the numbers, 8,918 came from Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou. This accounted for 58.9 percent of the province's total and made Guiyang the city with the most newly registered valid invention patents in the region.
In 2021, Guiyang registered 308 non-on-duty invention patents and 8,610 on-duty invention patents – comprising 5,842 from companies, 1,626 from universities, 948 from research institutions and 194 from government organizations.
Divided according to national industry classifications, Guiyang registered 7,857 invention patents involving the manufacturing industry; 587 for farming, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries; 319 for the mining industry; 126 for information transmissions and the software and information service sectors; 23 involving the construction industry; and six for the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas and water.
The invention patents also covered Guiyang's 10 major industries: advanced equipment manufacturing, modern chemistry, medicine, organic food, big data electronic information technology, basic materials, new types of building materials, tobacco and wine, clean electricity and basic energy.
