Jingmen, Hubei province
Best viewing period: From March to April
Located in the fertile Jianghan Plain at the confluence of the Yangtze and the Han rivers, Jingmen in Central China’s Hubei province has a long history of growing the oil rape vegetable. The cultivated area of the plant totals about 100,000 hectares in Shayang, the county that is most dedicated to rapeseed planting in Jingmen. Every March and April, golden rapeseed flowers are in full bloom there, complementing whitewashed walls and grey tiles and drawing over 1 million tourists.
Every March, the rapeseed flower tourism festival is held in Shayang county. When the breeze blows, the petals of the rapeseed flowers resembling rosy clouds exude a pleasant fragrance. In addition to the sea of rapeseed flowers, Jingmen is home to China’s first rapeseed culture museum.
