Four foreign professionals at the Institute of Urban Environment of Chinese Academy of Science were designated by the Xiamen bureau of science and technology as the city's special sci-tech consultants on March 15.
One of the consultants is Franz W. Gatzweiler, a German researcher and executive director of the Urban Health and Wellbeing Programme of the International Council for Science.
"I'm glad to be a sci-tech consultant and to carry out in-depth cooperation with Xiamen companies," Franz said.
He went on to say that he aims to use the program to introduce advanced environmental technology, which will open up additional potential for enterprises in Xiamen and throughout the country to collaborate.
Zhu Yongguan, a CAS academician and academic chief of the urban environment institute, said that bringing in high-caliber overseas personnel and industrializing environmental research and technology have long been priorities for the institute.
"We will step up efforts to help local companies introduce advanced technology and experience, cultivate an international perspective and seek international cooperation," Zhu said.
