High-tech companies and higher learning institutions in Suzhou New District recently walked away with eight prizes - four first prize, three second prize, and one third prize - from the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award, local media outlets reported.
The annual award honors basic and applied science and technology projects that have made important innovations in key technologies or system integration, and have significantly contributed to the economic and social development of Jiangsu province. Shortlisted projects must have operated for at least more than two years.
A total of 263 prizes were awarded this year.
The award-winners were deemed to have made breakthroughs in industrial key technologies, commercializing scientific and technological research results, and facilitating industry-university-research cooperation.
Suzhou Everbright Photonics Co won the first prize for its high-power semiconductor laser chip. The company has achieved independent control in chip design, key equipment, process technology, and raw materials, and has a monthly production scale of more than 1.5 million chips and a domestic market share of over 50 percent.
SND has been highlighting scientific and technological innovations in recent years. Statistics show that the district has since 2017 won two second-place National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology, one second prize at the National Award for Technological Invention, and 19 Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Awards.
