Foreign trade enterprises to benefit from intl rail freight in Huishan

Wuxi has been seeing more freight carried by rail thanks to its long-term efforts, according to local media.

Wuxi International Freight Train Co was recently established in the Huishan High-tech Zone, and the Wuxi West Railway Station Logistics Park was identified as the departure point of the Wuxi International Freight Train.

Foreign trade enterprises, especially those doing business with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, will enjoy more convenience, said an official from the Huishan High-tech Zone.

Wuxi was home to about 11,000 foreign trade enterprises by the end of 2021, and its imports and exports were valued at $105.7 billion.

In 2021, the first sea-rail intermodal train of Wuxi West Railway Station departed from the Huishan High-tech Zone to Shanghai's Yangshan Port. At the beginning of this year, the Wuxi West Railway Station Logistics Park beat out eight other freight stations in the city due to its favorable location and strong infrastructure.

The main goods carried by the Wuxi International Freight Train will include washing machines, dryers, solar panels, electric fans, heaters, electric vehicles, home textiles, auto parts, floors, silica, and medical materials.

Taking the main markets for local goods into consideration, workers at Wuxi West Railway Station have been planning main rail routes to ASEAN and EU countries, mainly to Southeast Asia and Central Europe.

Officials noted that the first international train is expected to open in the first quarter of this year, and relevant preparations are currently underway.
