Shanghai-born Zhang Jiemin is now the resident conductor of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. She has gained rich experience from working with domestic and European symphonic companies.
Zhang was the assistant of maestros Zubin Mehta and Michel Plasson from 1997 to 1999. In 2007, she conducted Cavalleria Rusticana at the Royal Theatre of Saint Charles in Italy, becoming the first female conductor to perform in this historic venue.
Zhang was given the title of Commander of the Ordine della Stella d'Italia in 2021.
