Hechi's primary industry sees remarkable growth in 2021

According to the Hechi municipal bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, the added value of the city's primary industry reached 23 billion yuan ($3.6 billion) in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 9.8 percent. The growth rate ranks first in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. In addition, the per capita disposable income of the city's rural residents was 12,325 yuan, a nominal increase of 11.3 percent year-on-year, with the growth rate ranking second in the region.

Last year, the city's grain output reached 987,000 metric tons, the grain planting area was 3.79 million mu (252,667 hectares), and 253,200 mu of high-standard farmland was built.

Hechi has promoted the high-quality development of its animal husbandry industry. Last year, the city produced 1.8 million pigs, 30.42 million poultry, 201,100 cattle, and 814,600 sheep, with its inventory and output of cattle and sheep ranking first in the region. Its output of aquatic products was 68,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent.

The area of mulberry gardens in the city grew to 944,200 mu, while the output of silkworm cocoons was 163,200 tons in 2021, with a year-on-year increase of 16.7 percent. The area of mulberry orchards and the output of silkworm cocoons ranked first among prefecture-level cities in China for the 17th consecutive year. The output value reached 8.4 billion yuan, accounting for 20.7 percent of the city’s primary industry output.

In addition, Hechi's fruit output value was 3 billion yuan last year, with a 19.96 percent year-on-year increase. The output value of its Chinese herbal medicine industry was 1.11 billion yuan, an increase of 31.11 percent year-on-year.
