The National Center for Women and Children's Health of the China CDC recently published an anticipatory guidance manual for children's mental healthcare that provides parenting tips and recommends activities for parents with children up to six years old.
It is part of the efforts to follow up on the China's National Health Commission's Healthy Children Action Promotion Plan (2021-2025), released in 2021, and addresses the proposal to promote children's mental health, strengthen social publicity in health promotion, and popularize knowledge about children's mental and behavioral development.
The manual guides parents with children in 12 age groups based on the National Basic Public Health Children's Health Checkup Procedures to improve family parenting skills. It also offers support to children's mental health service institutions at all levels to strengthen the foundation of children's health services.
Pivoting to mental healthcare, the manual incorporates the concept of early development into a family's daily life, with a focus on prevention guidance, benchmarks parenting and care skills to promote children's wellbeing and development.
