Feb 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 138 new cases of confirmed infections (79 imported cases, 32 in Shanghai municipality, 22 in Guangdong province, 10 in Fujian province, 4 in Beijing municipality, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Gansu province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Anhui province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 5 in Guangdong and 1 in Zhejiang; 59 indigenous cases, 20 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region including 18 in Hohhot, 1 in Bayannuur and 1 in Baotou, 12 in Jiangsu province including 10 in Suzhou and 2 in Wuxi, 6 in Huludao, Liaoning province, 5 in Chengdu, Sichuan, 5 in Yunnan including 4 in Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture and 1 in Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture, 4 in the closed-loop zone of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, 4 in Wuhan, Hubei province and 3 in Shenzhen, Guangdong, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Jiangsu and 3 in Sichuan), 4 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 53 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,803 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. As of 24:00 on Feb 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 13,551 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 12,616 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 935 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Feb 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 107,989 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 101,544 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,809 confirmed cases (including 12 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 1,586,886 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 39,412 were still under medical observation.

On Feb 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 46 new asymptomatic cases (40 imported cases; 6 indigenous cases, 2 in Bayannuur, Inner Mongolia, 2 in Suzhou, Jiangsu, and 2 in Sichuan including 1 in Chengdu and 1 in Luzhou). 39 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 38 imported cases) and 12 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (6 were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Feb 21, 681 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 568 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Feb 21, 46,173 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 26,038 in Hong Kong (300 had died and 16,449 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 20,056 in Taiwan (852 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
