Shanghai will lead in the formulation of 60 new international and 800 new national standards as part of its pledge to be a pioneer in standardization by 2025.
A bevy of targets were announced in the Shanghai Standardization Action Plan published on Thursday, including incubating an additional 50 Shanghai standards and implementing 30 national standardization demonstration projects.
The directive is aimed at serving the city's three pillar industries -namely the integrated circuit, biopharmaceuticals, and artificial intelligence sectors. They also include several future facing industries, modern services and green development the city has prioritized during the 14th Five Year Plan period (2021-25), a notice released on the municipal government's website said.
Shanghai is looking to add five secretariats of international or national technical committees or standardization committees by 2025, and recruit some 200 registered experts in international standardization.
It is hoping to formulate 30 standards in creating more synergies within the Yangtze River Delta Region, which encompasses neighbors like Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui province. It also plans to establish 30 novel-type standardization organizations and foster 1,000 directors to oversee the practice.
With the guideline in place, the city is looking to be the leader in China's standardization effort and form a world-leading standardization system by 2035.
