In 2021, Southwest China's Guizhou province took measures to control pollution, solve environmental pollution problems, and protect the natural environment.
That year, Guizhou reported no major environmental pollution or radiation accidents. Its environment quality ranked among the best in China, which laid a solid foundation for environmental protection in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
The average good and excellent air quality rate of Guizhou's nine main cities was 98.4 percent, and that of 88 counties was 98.6 percent in 2021. No day with heavily polluted air occurred in the province.
Among Guizhou's 119 surface water sections under national evaluation, 98.3 percent reached national good and excellent water quality standards, and all centralized drinking water sources above county-level met national water quality standards.
In 2021, Guizhou completed the review of risk assessments and regulation effect assessments of 19 polluted areas. It regulated 694,300 square meters of polluted land, treated domestic sewage in 400 villages, and sampled and monitored 499 underwater sources throughout the year.
The province also curbed environmental pollution in 103 industrial slag fields and tailings ponds, and collected and treated all medical waste.
So far, 132 of Guizhou's 139 environmental problems pointed out by central government departments have been solved, and the other seven are currently being dealt with.
Guizhou has also completed 11 pollution control projects, and cracked down on 356 environmental pollution problems of 128 companies.
