Two ski resorts in Northeast China's Jilin province – the Changbaishan International Resort and Lake Songhua Resort – were recently included in the list of the first batch of national-level ski resorts, jointly released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Administration of Sport.
Twelve ski resorts nationwide were selected, in an initiative aiming to help galvanize the development of China's winter sports sector.
Changbai Mountains are already known for being one of the foremost places to find powder snow in the world. The scenic area has seen rapid growth in tourists with the launch of a new high-speed railway line on Dec 24.
This winter, the Changbaishan International Resort was reputedly rated as one of the world's top ski resorts, boasting 43 beginners, intermediate and advanced ski trails.
Not to be outdone, the Lake Songhua Resort, located 15 kilometers from downtown Jilin city, is an impressive comprehensive complex that integrates mountain vacations, alpine skiing, events training, outdoor sports, restaurants and food outlets, as well as accommodation.
What's more, the complex is a national 4A level tourist attraction.
The resort, which has won the World Ski Award category for China's Best Ski Resorts for four consecutive years, reportedly kicked off its current winter sports season in November with increasing numbers of enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders.
It has scheduled more than 30 events during the season, including a music festival, a rime ice and snow festival, as well as a family skiing festival.
