Over 50 volunteers from the Mount Tai Bird-Loving Association in Tai'an, East China's Shandong province fed birds on Mount Tai on Jan 13. The volunteers purchased about 5 tons of bird food such as sorghum, millet and wheat, and dispersed it at more than 5,000 bird food feeding stations at the Mount Tai scenic spot.
"Since the beginning of winter, especially after the snowfall, it’s difficult for wild birds to find food on Mount Tai," a member of the Mount Tai Bird-Loving Association said.
According to preliminary data, 359 species of wild birds have been found on Mount Tai. Among them, birds such as turtledoves, magpies, sparrows, pulsatillas, and brown-headed crows migrate to Mount Tai in winter every year.
Birds are an important part of Mount Tai's ecosystem, Tai'an has paid much attention to bird protection. Authorities in Tai'an call on volunteers to feed birds every winter, aiming to raise people's awareness of biodiversity and bird conservation.
