The county-level city of Qixia in Yantai, East China's Shandong province was recognized as a provincial innovation base for practicing the concept that "clear waters and green mountains are invaluable assets", according to a notice released by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Shandong Province.

In recent years, the local government has beefed up efforts to promote the construction of a green city with Jiaodong culture.
