Rime scenery in Northeast China’s Jilin province along with mountains and rivers of Guilin, the stone forest in Yunnan, and the three gorges of the Yangtze River. They are “China’s four natural wonders”.

Located in Wulajie, a Manchu town, the Wusong (Rime) Island on the Songhua River is one of China’s best ice and snow resorts. In winter, when the mist from the frozen river meets the cold air, it turns into frost on trees, and called “rime” by meteorologists. The best viewing period is from late December to the end of February the following year. The island is also a wonderful place to catch willow tree branches covered with ice looking like crystals at sunrise.

The Wusong Island also boasts magnificent scenery at night. At about 10 pm, the fog landscape appears on the Songhua River. The riverside streets, trees, and buildings are shrouded by fog, making the island an immortal island of the sea of clouds. Generally speaking, the denser the river fog at night, the more spectacular the rime landscape of the next day will be.
