Guangzhou Development District (GDD) was rated second among 217 national economic and technological development zones by overall development level in 2020. It is the sixth consecutive year that the district ranked among the top three.
In addition, the district ranked first in foreign capital utilization and fifth in foreign trade, according to the 2021 assessment results recently released by the Ministry of Commerce.
The assessment shows that the national economic and technological development zones have maintained stable development in foreign investment, foreign trade, as well as scientific and technological innovation despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

GDD's regional GDP is projected to exceed 400 billion yuan ($62.88 billion) in 2021, with a year-on-year increase of more than 8 percent. The actual utilization of foreign investment reached $2.65 billion.
The district's foreign trade value exceeded 300 billion yuan for the first time. The local transaction value of cross-border e-commerce surpassed 30 billion yuan, accounting for more than half of Guangzhou's total.
Moreover, GDD recorded 34,000 new market entities and cultivated eight listed enterprises in 2021. It also completed the national pilot in the standardization of the high-end equipment manufacturing (intelligent manufacturing) industry.
