The Wuxi National Hi-tech District saw its total social research and development investment account for 4.6 percent of GDP, ranking first in Wuxi, according to data from the district's science and technology bureau.
The data shows that R&D investment in WND has continued to grow. The total amount WND enterprises spent on R&D increased by 31 percent from 6.77 billion yuan ($1.06 billion) in 2018 to 8.88 billion yuan in 2020.
From January to November in 2021, industrial enterprises above designated size in WND reported R&D expenses of 11.97 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of more than 25 percent, the highest in the city. R&D investment intensity in 2020 was 0.84 percentage points higher than in 2018.
In the first 11 months of 2021, 67.39 percent of industrial enterprises above designated size carried out R&D, while the figure was 38.11 percent in 2019 and 55.5 percent in 2020.
WND-based LongShine Technology Group Co Ltd recently ranked 94th among China's top 100 companies in terms of software and information technology service revenue.
In recent years, the company's R&D investment has accounted for more than 10 percent of its total revenue. Based on its self-developed energy digital service and operation platform, the company supports digital energy platform systems in various fields, including energy marketing, energy consumption and the digitalization of power marketing systems.
