Ferry a backup for cross-river transportation in Yunnan

Have you ever seen a car carried by a ferry to cross a river? Here in Lijiang, Yunnan province, an iron ferry on the Jinsha River is a reliable backup to transport travelers on snowy days when roads are blockaded by thick snow.

A modern bridge across the river will soon be in service in less than a year, but officials said the ferry is still available whenever it is needed.
